“The managed hand”. Artist’s book, 50 copies. Handmade for the artist.

It is with the idea of taking care that the artist Maria Alcaide has just published her first artist’s book, “Guanli de shou. The managed hand.”

A project that focuses on emotional work, work that requires the attention needed to care for others, not in a physical way. This publication mainly focuses on the work that women do, more specifically those who work in the “beauty market”, such as beauticians and artists. It is a research on the mechanisms of oppression linked to class, gender or race that manifest themselves both in nail salons, but also in the academic-artistic world.
