This project comes from a performance for which I disguised myself as Doctor Delarue. I am dressed in a white coat, I wear a mask, glasses and a stethoscope. I am sitting behind a white desk, two chairs are in front of me. I invite visitors to participate in an artistic consultation. This nomadic medical practice guarantees the confidentiality of the comments reported through mobile screens. After the participants have communicated to me their ailments – of any order – I generate a drawn and unique prescription.
My idea is to work on asemic writing, which is close to the indecipherable writing that is popularly attributed to doctors.
This project is a way of proposing a new interaction with the public by reinvesting barrier gestures and codes from the world of health. We live in the midst of a pandemic, at a time when the remedy is not yet accessible.
As such, I propose a new form of antidote, the drawn prescriptions, which allows me to evoke contempt for the world of culture: this, however, constitutes a first relief in the face of the social harshness of this event.
This project was born after seeing a photograph of me as a child wearing a doctor’s disguise. I wondered what the disguises were the name of: behind these infantile choices there are real desires and fundamental necessities. I want my work to provoke laughter, relieve and rest. My prescriptions are designed with this in mind.
