“Myrddin Wyllt, also known as Merlin Sylvestris, is a character in several medieval Welsh legends, portrayed as a prophet and a ‘madman’. He is the main inspiration for the character of Merlin, in Arthurian legend. Presumably born in Around the year 540, Myrddin Wyllt was struck with madness after the Battle of Arfderydd in 573.
