“Masked reality #03”

“Masked reality #03”, 2016. Pearl paper laminated on Dibond 2mm, 50 cm x 60 cm x 0.2 cm. Edition of 30 copies.

Digital retouching revealed, finally we all hide under a mask.

In Masked Reality, Mark Daovannary diverts the function of photographic retouching. It reveals what is usually hidden in fashion photography: the details of a face or a body that do not meet current aesthetic codes. The silhouettes represented here become ghostly, almost horrific. Mark thus questions the singularity of individuals. Can we still speak of identity if the peculiarities and “defects” that compose it are masked?
