“The static waves of the music of water or homage to Handel”

“The static waves of the music of water or homage to Handel”, 2020. Pencil, ink, alcohol, pigments, 120 x 280 cm. Triptych sold framed.

It is a triptych inspired by the three suites of G.F. Handel’s work, Water Music. My idea behind these drawings was relatively simple since it is about interpreting his music differently. That is to say to use these compositions as a support for mine. The title again expresses an antinomy by qualifying the waves as static. I wanted to give this title because it may seem strange to want to adapt a work that develops over time into a work that does not unfold over time. Yet from my point of view this makes sense; it is a kind of ode to contemplation, in the same way that a piece of music can take you far in space, a pictorial achievement can also take you far in time. More precisely during contemplation or contemplation, there is no longer in my opinion a spatio-temporal landmark.
