“Hollow relief”

“Hollow relief”, 2016. Refractory concrete, 60 x 30 x 7 cm.

The work Relief in hollow is made according to the principle of molding called “lost wax”. The wax is first modeled in a random process of throwing it liquid into water. The shape obtained is then frozen in a refractory cement then melted in a furnace: it disappears to leave only its counter-shape and the traces of the “dewaxing”. The work is developed through withdrawal, an essential notion in my work. Through its traditional technique and its reference to bas-reliefs, this diptych bears witness to my research into the history of molding.
