This series is a composition of prints made from coal balls placed on the pattern of the grid and then covered with plaster. Once removed, each ball leaves a black trace, like a ghost, evoking here the disappearance of the mining towns of the Valenciennes basin. Apart from the story it conveys, this work continues my research on imprint procedures and counterforms: these “forms of absence” that summon memory and the imagination.
