Zapata Manuel
Artiste plasticien né en 1991, Manuel Zapata vit et travaille à Séville. Il est diplômé en Beaux-Arts à l’Université de Séville en 2014.
Il a obtenu une maîtrise en art : Idée et Production par l’Université de Séville en 2015.
Actuellement, il est chercheur et doctorant du département d’histoire de l’art à l’Université de Séville.
Son œuvre aborde des contextes concrets à travers une pratique multidisciplinaire.
Des questions liées à l’identité culturelle, au patrimoine et au secteur de l’art sont des réflexions les plus récurrentes auxquelles il est confronté afin d’énoncer et de mettre en lumière depuis une position critique et subjective, toujours avec l’objet comme axe discursif.
Les objets qu’il relaye, avec lesquels il garde à toute heure une liaison de proximité, sont tirés de son contexte habituel à l’aide d’un geste électif et la façon dont ils sont manipulés ou présentés.
Cette façon d’agir leur confère un nouveau sens et les démarque de son apparent banalité, en les positionnant sous un nouveau plan esthétique.
Son travail a été montré à Paris à Jeune Création 69e, ainsi qu’à niveau international a été sélectionné pour le 11eme Festival Européen du Film du Puerto Rico et dans le Ier Puerto Rico Film Festival.
Il a exposé son travail en Espagne à la galerie Berlin (Séville, 2021) ; à la galerie Madoz, (Madrid, 2021) ; à l’Institut d’Art Contemporain (Malaga, 2018) ; l’Institut de Création Contemporaine d’Andalousie (Cordoue, 2017), entre autres espaces et institutions. Par ailleurs, il a développé séjours de recherche à l'Institut de Recherche et d'Etudes Supérieures du Tourisme (Paris, 2019) et dans l’Université Ana G. Méndez (Puerto Rico, 2019).
Manuel Zapata est représenté chez Maison contemporain depuis 2021.
Visual artist born in 1991, Manuel Zapata lives and works in Seville. He graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Seville in 2014.
He obtained a Masters in Art: Idea and Production from the University of Seville in 2015.
Currently he is a researcher and doctoral student in the Department of Art History at the University of Seville.
His work addresses concrete contexts through a multidisciplinary practice.
Questions related to cultural identity, heritage and the art sector are the most recurring reflections he is confronted with in order to state and highlight from a critical and subjective position, always with the object as discursive axis.
The objects he relays, with which he maintains a close connection at all times, are drawn from his usual context using an elective gesture and the way in which they are handled or presented.
This way of acting gives them a new meaning and sets them apart from their apparent banality, by positioning them under a new aesthetic level.
His work has been shown in Paris at Jeune Création 69th, as well as internationally was selected for the 11th European Film Festival of Puerto Rico and in the 1st Puerto Rico Film Festival.
