Syed Shoaib Mahmood (Inde) est un artiste multimédia basé à Berlin. Ayant déjà exposé en tant qu’artiste solo à la Kings & Queens Gallery, Mumbai, la pratique dynamique principalement autodidacte de Mahmood s’appuie sur sa courte expérience en tant qu’étudiant en sculpture à la J.J School of Arts de Mumbai.
Travaillant principalement avec la sculpture et le texte, le travail de Mahmood explore le langage, la beauté, la perception et les relations spatiales des personnes et des objets, examinant les significations “au-delà de la surface et de l’artifice”. L’accent est mis sur la tension et la relation entre le moment et l’objet.
Mahmood frappe une dialectique entre l’innocence et l’ignorance dans ses œuvres. L’artiste se voit lui-même comme un médium, où il pense que l’œil n’est peut-être pas l’instrument le plus profond, mais certainement le plus rapide. Explorant la relation entre le visuel et l’espace, Mahmood note en fait que sa pratique artistique est entièrement fondée sur l’exploration de thèmes conceptuels abstraits de la foi à l’amour.
Syed Shoaib Mahmood (India) is a Berlin-based multimedia artist. Having previously exhibited as a solo artist at the Kings & Queens Gallery, Mumbai, Mahmood's mainly self-taught dynamic practice draws on his brief experience as a sculpture student at the J.J School of Arts in Mumbai.
Working primarily with sculpture and text, Mahmood's work explores the language, beauty, perception and spatial relationships of people and objects, examining meanings “beyond the surface and artifice”. The emphasis is on the tension and the relationship between moment and object.
Mahmood strikes a dialectic between innocence and ignorance in his works. The artist sees himself as a medium, where he thinks the eye is perhaps not the deepest instrument, but certainly the fastest. Exploring the relationship between the visual and the space, Mahmood actually notes that his artistic practice is entirely grounded in exploring abstract conceptual themes from faith to love.
