Vega Perez Monica
Monica Perez Vega est une artiste-conservatrice et éducatrice dont le travail explore les idées d'incertitude et d'adaptation. Elle est originaire de Californie, mais a vécu à Montréal, Amsterdam, Londres et actuellement à Birmingham, au Royaume-Uni. Ses expériences de recommencement permanent ont conduit à un processus qui étudie les cycles de changement.
Il y a une fluidité et une résilience dans la pratique de Monica qui repose sur des moments de perturbation. Elle est toujours à la recherche du catalyseur et a adopté la nature transformatrice des éléments comme collaborateurs potentiels. Ses sculptures sont assemblées à partir de matériaux trouvés, donnés et réutilisés, faisant généralement référence à une reconstruction précaire, tandis que ses peintures répondent aux circonstances. Toutes les choses de la nature doivent s'adapter à l'incontrôlable et Monica cherche à capturer ce qui est sur le point de se renouveler ou de s'effondrer.
Monica est titulaire d'un MFA en peinture de la Slade School of Fine Art et d'un BFA en peinture et dessin du California College of the Arts. En 2016, elle a cofondé le magazine et le podcast Hiraeth et en 2020, elle a fondé la galerie d'art Small Works. Monica Perez Vega is an artist-curator and educator whose work explores ideas of uncertainty and adaptation. She is originally from California, but has lived in Montreal, Amsterdam, London and currently Birmingham, UK. Her experiences of continually starting over have led to a process which investigates cycles of change.
There is a fluidity and resilience to Monica’s practice that relies on moments of disruption. She is always seeking the catalyst and has embraced the transformative nature of the elements as potential collaborators. Her sculptures are assembled from found, gifted and repurposed material usually referencing a precarious reconstruction while her paintings respond to circumstance. All things in nature must adapt to the uncontrollable and Monica seeks to capture that which is on the verge of either renewal or collapse.
Monica has an MFA in painting from the Slade School of Fine Art and a BFA in painting and drawing from the California College of the Arts.
