Hay Célia
Célia Hay est née en 1991 à Marseille. Diplômée de Central Saint Martins en 2016, elle vit et travaille à Londres.
Sa pratique mêlant photographie, film et installation tisse des récits performatifs au fil desquels ses personnages accomplissent de mystérieuses quêtes existentielles, se libérant ainsi de contraintes sociétales. Ses films touchent au deuil, à l’errance, et à la manière dont des personnes à bout de langage tissent des liens à un moment donné. Il y a une notion d’équilibre fragile intrinsèque à son travail: filmer devient un cadre amenant la possibilité d’un événement - peut-être un accident - à la manière d’un rituel troublant. Elle cherche quelque chose qui s’échappe de l’autre et ne peut être entièrement saisi, une expérience intérieure.
Son travail été présenté dans diverses institutions dont l’Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) of London, la Fondation Fiminco pour l’édition annuelle de Jeune Création 71 (Pantin), BétonSalon (Paris), la Friche la Belle de Mai pour Art-o-rama (Marseille), la Collection Yvon Lambert (Avignon), le Pact Zollverein (Essen), le Kyoto Art Center, et lors de Plat(t)form 2016 au Fotomuseum Winterthur.
Ses films, produits par ICA London, Channel 4 Random Acts, Abandon Normal Devices, etc ont été montrés dans des festivals internationaux tels que London Short Film Festival, FIDMarseille, Aesthetica Short Film Festival.
Célia Hay was born in 1991 in Marseille. A graduate of Central Saint Martins in 2016, she lives and works in London.
Her practice combining photography, film and installation weaves performative stories through which her characters accomplish mysterious existential quests, thus freeing themselves from societal constraints. Her films touch on mourning, wandering, and how the loss of words can establish bonds between people at a given moment. There is a notion of fragile balance intrinsic to her work: the act of filming becomes a framework bringing the possibility of an event - perhaps an accident - in the manner of an uncanny ritual. She looks for something that slips from the other and cannot be fully grasped, an inner experience.
