Bircher Pascal
Pascal Bircher est né à Redhill (Royaume-Uni) en 1972. Il est titulaire d'un BA Honours en Fine Art de Central Saint Martins, Londres (2001) et d'un diplôme en Display & Exhibition Design de l'École des Arts Appliqués, Vevey, Suisse (1996).
Après avoir obtenu son diplôme des Beaux-Arts, il a déménagé en France, où il a vécu et travaillé pendant 14 ans. En 2019, il a déménagé en Irlande.
Le travail de Bircher sonde les notions d'origine, d'identité et de mémoire, et comment nous nous appuyons sur diverses formes de récit, du large à l'intime, pour formuler un sens de la réalité, à travers nos mythologies personnelles et collectives. Il entremêle et décortique les processus d'édification, les mécanismes, les modalités, les représentations et les interprétations de ces mythologies interconnectées, et les manières dont elles évoluent et mutent, pour tenter de révéler le gouffre qu'est l'inconnu.
Il questionne en outre, avec un mélange de pessimisme, d'émerveillement et d'humour, les phénomènes d'apparition, de disparition et de résurgence de la forme et du sens au fil du temps. En explorant les angles morts de notre subjectivité, il joue avec la façon dont nous essayons désespérément de combler le gouffre et de combler les lacunes de nos perceptions et conceptions erronées et fissurées.

Bircher utilise des œuvres d'installation, de sculpture, de vidéo et de photographie. Chaque pièce finale implique un processus qui est un passage progressif de l'extensif au concis.
Pascal Bircher was born in Redhill (UK) in 1972. He has a BA Honours in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, London (2001) and a degree in Display & Exhibition Design from the School of Applied Arts, Vevey, Switzerland (1996). On completion of his Fine Art degree he moved to France, where he lived and worked for 14 years. In 2019 he moved to Ireland.
Bircher’s work probes notions of origin, identity and memory, and how we rely on various forms of narrative, from the broad to the intimate, to formulate a sense of reality, through our personal and collective mythologies. He interweaves and dissects the edification processes, the mechanisms, the modalities, the representations and the interpretations of these interconnected mythologies, and the ways in which they evolve and mutate, in an attempt to reveal the chasm that is the unknown.
He further questions, with a blend of pessimism, awe and humour, the phenomena of appearance, disappearance and resurgence of form and meaning over time. By exploring the blind spots of our subjectivity, he toys with how we desperately try to fill the chasm, and bridge the gaps of our flawed and fissured perceptions and conceptions.

Bircher uses installation, sculpture, video and photographic works. Each final piece involves a process that is a gradual shift from the expansive to the concise.
